A young girl’s visit to her grandmother’s house turned into a life-changing experience when she stumbled upon a stray dog wandering in the elderly lady’s yard. Shocked by the dog’s emaciated and pitiful condition, the girl immediately contacted a local animal rescue organization for help.
“When we saw the video of the stray dog, we knew that we had to save her,” said one of the volunteers from the animal rescue organization. “But when we arrived at the scene, the dog had disappeared. We were determined to find her and give her the help she desperately needed.”
The search for the stray dog began in earnest, with volunteers scouring the area for any sign of her. Finally, after hours of searching, one of the volunteers spotted the dog hiding in a bush. It was a heart-wrenching sight – the dog was nothing but skin and bones, with infected sores all over her body and eyes that seemed to reflect the worst of her suffering.
“There was absolutely no justification for why she was in such a condition,” said the volunteer. “She had been starved for months, and it was clear that she had experienced sheer agony during that time.”
The rescue team immediately took the dog, whom they named Ivy, to their veterinarian for urgent medical care. Ivy tested positive for Babesiosis, a serious tick-borne illness, and required a blood transfusion. She also received a medicated bath to help treat her skin condition.
“When we offered Ivy food for the first time, she looked at it hesitantly, as if she had never seen good food before,” recounted the volunteer. “It was heartbreaking to think of what she must have gone through.”
Despite her frail condition, Ivy showed remarkable resilience. After just a day of treatment, she began gaining confidence and was less scared. She started eating with more strength, and within a week, she had gained over 2 kilograms, weighing in at 7.65 kilograms.
“Ivy’s progress was truly remarkable,” said the veterinarian. “Her will to survive and recover was truly inspiring.”
After seven days of intensive care, Ivy was finally able to leave the vet’s office. She wagged her tail with excitement as she boarded the rescue organization’s “happy bus,” which would take her to her new home in the UK with her new godmother.
“We were overjoyed to see Ivy’s transformation,” said the volunteer. “She had come a long way from the emaciated dog we found in the yard. She was now ready to start a new chapter in her life.”
Ivy’s journey to recovery was made possible by the generosity of donors who supported the animal rescue organization. The organization expressed their heartfelt thanks to those who had donated to provide Ivy with much-needed meals and medical care.
“Thanks to the support of our donors, Ivy now has a chance at a happy, healthy life,” said the volunteer. “Her story is a testament to the power of compassion and the difference we can make when we come together to help animals in need.”
Today, Ivy is thriving in her new home in the UK, where she is surrounded by love and care from her godmother. Her once sad and emaciated frame has been replaced by a healthy and happy dog who enjoys her meals with gusto and wags her tail with joy.
“Ivy’s life has been transformed,” said her godmother. “She has brought so much happiness and love into our lives, and we are grateful every day that we were able to give her a second chance. Ivy is a true testament to the resilience and spirit of rescue animals, and her story is a reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the power of compassion.”
